The 19th winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 17th September 1794 over the 2 miles of Town Moor, was Beningbrough, a bay colt by King Fergus out of a dam by Herod, owned by Mr Hutchinson. The winner started his illustrious career at York on 29th May 1794 when defeated by Prior. He followed this up with two victories at York before gaining his revenge on Prior in the St Leger. Remarkably at the same meeting he won the Doncaster Cup, defeating the previous years St Leger winner Ninety-Three in the race.
